What are Small Claims?

Small Claims are defined as  civil actions based in contract or tort for money not in excess of $10,000, exclusive of interest and costs, or for the collection of taxes. (Illinois Supreme Court Rule 281). Small Claims may be filed with the Clerk of the Circuit Court. If filing in Cook County, many forms can be found at: www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org.
